Water released for kar cultivation from Manimuthar dam

Tirunelveli: Water was released from the sluices of the Manimuthar dam, the largest dam in Tirunelveli district, to facilitate kar paddy cultivation. District collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish released water from the dam on Friday to benefit 2,757 acres under cultivation in Zamin Singampatti, Ayan Singampatti, Vairavikulam, Therku Kallidaikurichi, Therku Pappankulam and Moolachi villages in Ambasamudram Taluk in Tirunelveli district.

The collector told reporters that 45 cusecs water has been released from the dam and that it will be increased based on the requirement. The release will continue for 105 days wherein a total of close to 554.25 million litres will be released.

On Friday morning, water level in the dam stood at 72.52 ft against the full dam capacity of 118 ft, while inflow was nine cusecs. Water was last released from the dam for cultivation for 102 days in the pisanam season till the end of March. Tirunelveli MP K R P Prabakaran was also present.
