TNJFU - FPIF Organized Training Program On Production Of Value Added Fish Products

Under the National Agricultural Development Programme scheme entitled “Kayalagam” – The Future Store for Amplification of Marketing of Diversified Fish Products in Tamil Nadu, a training program was conducted for the women folk of BHEL Township on 24th April 2019. The training program was on Production of Value-added Fish Products held at Fish Processing Incubation Facility, College of Fisheries Engineering, Nagapattinam. The people benefitted from this training program were nearly 10 who are planning and working towards becoming an entrepreneur in their region.

The Co-Principal Investigator of this scheme Kayalagam, Dr. P. Karthickumar under whom this training program was held gave the welcome address. Then the inauguration was proceeded by the Dean In-charge Dr. N. Manimehalai of College of Fisheries Engineering, Nagapattinam, who also gave the presidential address on the need for the value added fish products and the various products that are available.

Furthermore, she also took a lecture on the Retort Processing and the necessity of Ready to Eat Products present in the market.

The trainees were shown around the facility where the machinery and the utilization of those were explained. They also had hands on training in preparing Ready-To-Eat Prawn curry using Retort processing. In addition to that, they also had training on pasta preparation using cold screw extruder.

At the end of the program, both the Dean In-charge and the Co-Principal investigator had a brain storming session with them.

In which they expressed their interest by putting forth the doubts they had in mind like regarding the shelf life of the products, the research that was done related to those products and so on. The program was coordinated by Dr. P. Karthickumar and Hozen Ricchie Rose A.
