RESEARCH AND EXTENSION COUNCIL MEET HELD AT PAU
LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 6:
The monthly meeting of the Research and Extension Council was held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon. The former ADG (Horticulture) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Dr K.K. Jindal was the special guest on the occasion.
Addressing the scientists, Dr Dhillon said, “There is no doubt that PAU has excellent linkages with its stakeholders. But it needs to be fortified all the more to know farmers’ priorities, experience and knowledge.”
Dr Jindal said along with developing new production and protection technologies for horticultural crops, efforts should be made to rejuvenate the old fruit plants.
Dr N.S. Bains, Director of Research, shed light on research projects bagged by PAU and research activities of the past six months. Referring to the trials on kinnow cultivation, he disclosed that six trials at Hoshiarpur and four at Abohar district are underway. He also informed about technology development for kinnow harvesting, preparation of juice from kinnow and guava, paddy straw management technologies, use of leaf colour chart for nitrogen fertilizer application and use of biofertilizers in paddy. Farmers’ experience as well as feedback is always kept in view while reprioritizing research programmes, he added.
Dr D.S. Bhatti, Additional Director of Extension Education, presented the key outlines of the transfer of technology system involving knowledge dissemination through farm literature, farmer portal, Kisan App, Kheti Sandesh- a digital newspaper, etc.
Dr J.S. Mahal, Director of Extension Education, addressed the queries of the farmers and advised them to remain in touch with PAU experts for technical guidance.
