A two-day training course on “High Density Planting and Canopy Management in Fruit Crops” will be organized for horticulture development officers, district extension specialists and scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras on December 15 and 16. The fruit science experts will highlight the scenario of fruit cultivation in Punjab with special reference to deciduous fruits. Besides, experts would delve on high density planting and canopy management in pear for higher productivity and better fruit quality; canopy management and planting systems in peach and plum for fruit quality; and integrated disease and pest management in fruit crops. The experts would also impart knowledge in training, pruning and plant nutrition in minor fruit crops of Punjab; rejuvenation technologies for restoration of productive potential of senile fruit trees; and nutrition and fertilization in fruit trees. High density planting and management of tree canopies in citrus; and management of tree canopies and plant nutrition in mango and litchi would also be the focus areas. The trainees will be provided tips for marketing of fruits.
