PAU TO ORGANIZE THREE-DAY CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW

 

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 22

 

The Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), will organize the 22nd Chrysanthemum Show-cum-Sale from December 7-9 in the Open Air Theatre, near Mela Ground at PAU. The show will be held in collaboration with the Estate Organization of PAU. Since its inception in 1996, the show is organized every year in the memory of a renowned Punjabi poet, Bhai Vir Singh Ji, who was an ardent admirer of chrysanthemums. Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, will inaugurate the Chrysanthemum Show on December 7 at 12.30 pm.

           Dr H.S. Grewal, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, said in this show, about 2000 flower pots of more than 100 varieties of chrysanthemum will be displayed for sale and a competition will be held in 12 major categories among the individuals and institutions. The show will provide an opportunity to the visitors to interact with the experts to get useful tips for the growing of flowers, particularly, chrysanthemums, he added. The flowers are becoming more and more popular due to change in lifestyle and awareness about environment among the people, he observed. The show also aims at promoting floriculture in Punjab, he stated.
