The Nizamabad Agriculture Marketyard was selected for the national level award for the effective implementation of reforms for strengthening the electronic National Agriculture Market (e-NAM). District Collector Yogitha Rana will receive the award from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function to be held in connection with the Civil Services Day celebrations in New Delhi on April 21.

E-NAM is the flagship programme of the Central Government and the district secured very good recognition for being in the forefront in the execution of the project. The Collector has taken special interest on it to plug laxities in the project implementation resulting in the easy access to nationwide trading for farmers avoiding middlemen.

Surprise visits

While making surprise visits to the market and interacting with farmers, traders and officials Ms. Yogitha could make the e-NAM profitable to the farming community. The award is given to the districts which have left their own mark in the civil administration in respect of implementation of Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana, Krishi Sanchayee Yojna, Deen Dayal Grama Yojna and e-NAM.

For the implementation of e-NAM, awareness and farmer orientation programmes were organised at all administrative levels. Widespread publicity was given through conduct of meetings, gram sabhas, distribution of pamphlets and information brochures, audio-visual aids and through print, electronic media.

Teams of officers drawn from agriculture, marketing and revenue were formed at all functional levels with active involvement of public representatives. Three district level, six divisional level and 30 Tahsil level training programs were organized for farmers on the availability of facility at the marketyard.

District administration has taken up several brain storming interactive sessions with stakeholders of market yard. During these sessions concerns raised by the stakeholders have been listed out and a three phased action plan involving several reforms was evolved.

It may be recalled here that the district also bagged the national award last year for the effective execution of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guaranty Scheme. Then, Ms. Rana received the award from the Union Minister for Rural Development in New Delhi.
