QUALITY SEEDS FOR KHARIF SOWING AVAILABLE AT PAU AND KVKs
LUDHIANA, JUNE 14:
For kharif sowing, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has made available the seed of maize hybrid PMH 1 at Ludhiana and at University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendras at Samrala, Ropar, Bahowal, Hoshiapur, Noormahal, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Amritsar. Giving this information, Dr T.S. Dhillon, Director (Seeds), PAU, said the corn of this variety is medium sized and its grains are shining yellow-orange in colour. This variety matures in about 95 days and its average yield is 21q/acre, he added. It is available for purchase @ Rs 150/kg, he told. Besides maize, a good quality seed of improved variety of soybean SL 958 is also available, he said. Soybean is a viable option for crop diversification, he observed. Dr Dhillon told an average yield of SL 958 is 7.30 q/acre and the variety is free from viral infection. It is excellent for soy milk and cheese making, he said, adding that its seed is available @ Rs 30/kg. In addition, a good quality seed of Pusa Basmati 1121 has also been made available for the farmers @ Rs 30/kg, he informed.
