The paddy research wing of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) and the Agriculture Department conducted a field demonstration of paddy transplanters on the campus on Tuesday.
The demo was intended to study the performance of transplanters with the help of specially-raised nurseries. The transplanters, fabricated by several companies, were demonstrated as part of the State government’s plans to encourage farm mechanisation to overcome the problem of farm labour.
According to university officials, the study would include comparing expenditure made for transplantation through machines and farmhands. The agriculture scientists were of the opinion that the use of transplanters would not only save expenditure, but would enable timely transplantation and save the time consumed in the process.
PJTSAU Registrar Sudheer Kumar, Director (Extension) D. Raji Reddy, Director (Research) R. Jagadeeshwar and officials from the zonal agriculture research stations and others were present on the occasion.
