KISAN MELA DATES ANNOUNCED AT PAU
LUDHIANA, AUGUST 8:
The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has announced the dates for the upcoming Kisan Melas in September 2018. Giving details, Dr J.S. Mahal, Director of Extension Education, PAU, said the series of seven Kisan Melas will kick off with the first mela at Ballowal Saunkhri and Gurdaspur on September 11 followed by that at Rauni (Patiala) on September 14. The Kisan Melas at Amritsar and Faridkot will be held on September 17, he added. For the first time, the Kisan Mela at PAU campus, Ludhiana, will be organized for three-days from September 20-22, he informed. The last mela is scheduled to be held at Bathinda on September 26, he said.
Dr Mahal said, “Kisan Melas play a vital role in the dissemination of improved agricultural knowledge among the farmers of Punjab.” Live demonstrations, exhibitions, technical sessions, sale of improved and quality seed, sale of farm literature, farmer-scientist interaction and crop produce competition are the highlights of the mela, he added. Not only farmers, even farm women benefit from these melas, he observed, adding that they are apprised of improved household management practices and home science competitions are also organized for them.
