Kakdwip Research Centre (KRC) of ICAR-CIBA has organized day training-cum-demonstration programme on integrated farming of Vegetables, Fish and Livestock at Mundapara, Manmathapur, South 24 Parganas for the livelihood improvement of tribal people on 9th October 2018. KRC of CIBA has been working with the tribal people of this area to popularize integrated farming of fish and livestock for the livelihood improvement. The training was attended by 50 farmers along with local Gram Panchayat representatives, Pradhan and social activists. An interaction meeting was held during the occasion wherein Dr. Ananta Das, Veterinary Officer, Kakdwip block sensitized the people about the practices and problems of animal husbandry with emphasis on how to make it more lucrative venture at household level. CIBA scientists trained the participants on aquaculture and its integration with livestock and horticulture. In each session, there was a continuous interaction between farmers and experts on the day-to-day problems faced by farmers. The Panchayat Pradhan appreciated the livelihood improvement activities being implemented by CIBA at the tribal villages, and requested to extend similar initiatives in other tribal villages also for the benefit of the disadvantageous tribal population of Sundarban region. Dr. T.K. Ghoshal, Nodal Officer for TSP activities of KRC, CIBA along with fellow scientists Dr. Sanjoy Das, Dr. Gouranga Biswas, Dr. Prem Kumar, Ms. Christina L. and Ms. Leesa P. convened the event.
