Icar-Cazri Organized A Workshop On Protected Cultivation

A stakeholder’s workshop on ‘Protected Cultivation: Issues and Strategies’ was organized on 25 April, 2019 at the ICAR-CAZRI, Jodhpur. More than 80 participants including growers of protected cultivation, drip and greenhouse developers, personnel from related industries like seed, fertilizers, pesticides and drip system and young aspirants who are looking this as a venture participated in the workshop.  Dr. O.P. Yadav, Director-CAZRI, appreciated the participation of youngsters in the workshop. He stressed them to come into this venture with adequate technical support needed for making this a very successful venture through support of CAZRI and its experts to not just for their livelihood but also ensuring nutritional security of this region. Dr. T.K. Joshi, Jt. Director Horticulture, Jodhpur and Mr. Alok Sharma, NHB official shared the Govt. scImage titlehemes which support farmers in this venture. Participants visited the wonderfully running tomato and cucumber crops in different protected structures. Expert scientists and extension personnel of CAZRI and line departments shared their views though lectures and interactions. The issues related to protected cultivation like suitable structures for (semi)arid climate, micro-climate adjustment, suitable crops and cultivars, fertigation scheduling, training-pruning, diseases, pests and nutritional disorder and their management, value chain management, schemes operated by state and national agencies involved in promotion of protected cultivation were discussed in detail. Dr. Praveen Kumar, Head of Division spoke about the need of protected culture owing to challenges in open field cultivation in arid regions. Dr. Pradeep Kumar and Dr. P.S. Khapte convened the workshop and they covered all the aspects of protected cultivation with the stakeholders. Dr. N.R. Panwar gave insights on soil and water quality aspects. Dr. P.R. Meghwal, Dr. A. Saxena and Dr. Akath Singh extended their technical support for the success of workshop. The workshop was co-sponsored by Hindustan Agro-Tech (Ved Rishi) and Rivulis Irrigation (Shri Ji Irrigation).
