FORMER ADC OF PAU DECORATED WITH NATIONAL AWARD

Dr Ranjit Singh, former Additional Director Communication, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been conferred with national award for outstanding efforts in science and technology communication through print media including books and magazines. During last 50 years, Dr Singh has played a vital role in developing scientific temper among farmers and motivating them to adopt scientific methods of farming. Every month, he is communicating with lakhs of framers through his columns in various newspapers. At present, he is the most popular agriculture science writer in Punjabi language and is known as ‘Father of Agriculture Science Literature’ in Punjabi. During last five years, he has published more than 300 articles for promoting scientific farming. He writes weekly message for Kheti Bani of Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar and All India Radio, Jalandhar. Dr Singh is a recipient of Punjab Sarkar Parman Patra by Punjab Government and Shromani Writer Award and Rawel Shromani Patarkar Award. He has also been honoured by Punjab Science and Technology Council, PAU and many other organizations.
Dr Singh has served PAU for more than three decades and worked on prestigious posts throughout his career in the University. Eight of his books have won national awards. He has also been instrumental in developing communication technologies for Kisan Melas, farmer’s discussion group, and training of farmers and farm women through distance education. Through multimedia approach, he has developed audio cassette and crop calendar to convey the message of scientific farming to the farming families.
