PAU IMPARTS TRAINING IN CEREAL TECHNOLOGY

 

LUDHIANA, MAY 31:

 

A three-day training course on “Cereal Technology” was conducted in the Department of Food Science and Technology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), for the scheduled castes. A total of 25 trainees attended the course, held under the aegis of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) project.

 

Dr Poonam A. Sachdev, Senior Vegetable Technologist-cum-Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, welcomed the participants and acquainted them with the facilities and activities of the department.

 

Dr Amarjeet Kaur, Senior Milling Technologist, delivered a lecture on ‘Processing of Cereals for Value Addition.’

 

 Dr Baljit Singh, Senior Baking Technologist, delivered a talk on ‘Extrusion Technology’ and gave practical demonstration on the preparation of extruded snacks and porridge.

 

 Dr Gurkirat Kaur, Assistant Professor, spoke on ‘Baking Technology’ while   Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Assistant Food Technologist, gave demonstration on the preparation of biscuits and cakes. 

 

 Dr Kamaljit Kaur, Assistant Professor, informed the participants about the health benefits of cereal products and multigrain concept. She also demonstrated the preparation of multigrain atta.

 

 Dr Savita Sharma, Senior Dough Rheologist, gave practical demonstration on the preparation of pasta and noodles. 

 

 A visit to Food Industry Centre and laboratories at PAU was also conducted by Rahul Gupta, Research Assistant.
