FARMERS AND FARM WOMEN IN LARGE NUMBER ATTEND PAU KISAN CLUB MEET
LUDHIANA, FEBRUARY 3:
The monthly training camp of PAU Kisan Club was held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in which 413 member farmers participated. Besides, monthly training camp of women’s wing of the club was also held in which 70 farm women from different parts of Punjab participated.
The Coordinator of the Club, Dr T.S. Riar lauded the member farmers for transferring the PAU technologies to other farmers. He urged the members to remain in touch with PAU experts for technical guidance on various aspects of agriculture.
Dr Chander Mohan, Senior Extension Specialist (Plant Pathology) and former Additional Director Communication, educated the farmers about disease management in rabi crops.
Dr Amarjit Kaur, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, gave tips on food processing.
Dr S. Jindal, Vegetable Science expert, shed light on nutrition garden.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Coordinator of women’s wing of the club, said that PAU has been organizing several training courses for empowering the rural women. During the camp, the home science experts of PAU laid emphasis on daily diet and gave demonstrations on preparation of healthy and nutritious recipes for daily consumption, she added.
Later, the farmers visited Food Industry Centre at PAU, where they tasted mango and guava juice, processed and prepared by PAU Food Science and Technology Department. They relished the flavours of mango and guava juice. On the occasion, an exhibition was also put by Centre for Communication and International Linkages, Department of Microbiology and Department of Food Science and Technology to apprise farmers of PAU farm publications, new crop varieties and production-protection technologies.
