Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra (Secretary, DARE, and DG, ICAR) visited the ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, Hisar. During his visit, DG reviewed the infrastructure and facilities that are created for the on-going buffalo cloning project. He closely observed the progress and research work being conducted on buffalo cloning and emphasizedto produce multiple copies of more elite breeding bulls. He stressed the importance of genomic and epigenomics regulations between clones, donors and their progenies for improving the success rate of buffalo cloning
Dr. S.S Dahiya, Director, CIRB, thanked DG, ICAR for his keen interest in the buffalo cloning activities and requested to provide funds to createnew infrastructure to house more breeding bulls, including cloned bulls, which he readily accepted and asked to provide details of infrastructure required. Dr PS Yadav, PI, Buffalo cloning project, urged for his support to prepare the guidelines for the use of buffalo cloned bulls for breeding schemes, and in this direction a brainstorming seminar is to be organised. Dr. BN Tripathi, Director, NRC-equine, Hisar also witnessed the DG’s visit to CIRB.
