DG, ICAR Visits ICAR - Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur and laid foundation stone of Farmers Hostel in the institute’s premises today.

Dr. Mohapatra while interacting with the scientists stressed the need of development of canker resistance acid lime cultivars, rootstocks resistance to Phytophthora, identification of zygotic seedlings, intercropping in citrus, crop diversification, development climate resilient technologies, promotion of conservation agricultural practices like mulching, drip irrigation, fertigation, use of neem coated urea etc. Also emphasised on importance of disease free healthy planting material, e-marketing and need to establish value chain. Further, he highlighted the importance of development of complete post-harvest packaging for promoting, creating, incubating entrepreneurship through skill development programmes of Government of India.

Dr. Mohapatra released publication viz., ICAR-CCRI Annual Report 2015-16 (Hindi), TMC Annual Report (2015-16), pocket dairy on monitoring of insect pests and diseases in citrus and an extension folder on Farmer friendly guidelines for the management of systemic diseases in citrus during a meeting with staff of Nagpur based ICAR institutes (CCRI, NBSS&LUP, CICR and GTC) at NBSS&LUP, Nagpur.
