Background:

Thiru. Palaniyappan of Thondipattimedu,Paramathy of Velur block, Namakkal district is anprogressive farmer. He underwent a training on Cucurbits cultivation techniques at this Kendra.After that he cultivated local variety of cucumber under drip cum fertigation system in an area of3 acres.

Interventions:

 Spacing : 12x5 feet

 Plant population:3 seedlings/pit

 Irrigation through drip is provided for alternate days for 1.5 hrs.

 Fertigation schedule (at 3 days interval): 19-19-19:750 gm

13-0-45:500 gm

Urea -750 gm

Process followed by KVK:

He attended various training programme on Cucurbits cultivation which was organized at Namakkal KVK, frequent field visit was made to farmers field, and the necessary technical advice was given to the farmer. The farmer in turn adopted the recommendations.

Technologies Followed:

 Drip cum fertigation, Fertigation schedule, Mulching method and Ethrel application to increase female flower production was followed.

Impact:

By adopting the above mentioned practices, he obtained 3.2 tonnes of fruits .He also directly marketed cucumber and earned Rs 23,000/acre as net profit from 80 days.Employment generation:It has generated employment for rural youth and women.
