Collector C. Kathiravan inspected the Yermunai Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) that was formed under the collective farming system at Alukuli village in Gobichettipalayam here on Tuesday.

The State government had in 2017 launched a programme for small and marginal farmers under which a group of farmers can start their own organisation and sell products directly to the consumers.

First, Farmers Interest Group was formed which later integrated into Farmer Producer Group (FPG) that comprises 100 farmers. Later, 10 FPGs would be federated into FPO that is registered as a company.

As many as 900 farmers in Gobichettipalayam, Thuckanaickenpalayam and Nambiyur blocks had formed the FPO to manufacture natural country sugar, coconut oil, groundnut oil and wood pressed oil at the cold storage facility premises in the village.

Farmers were given a subsidy of ₹10 lakh for purchase of the required machinery.

Mr. Kathiravan interacted with the farmers, who explained the manufacturing of various products.

The Collector also inspected the 1000 metric tonne capacity cold storage facility and inspected the stored dal items.

Assistant Director of Agriculture A.N. Asaithambi (Gobichettipalayam) and other officials were present during the visit.
