A Field Day on ‘Dragon Fruit Production Technology’ was organized by the Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar on 6th September, 2018 considering the significance of dragon fruit in fruit crop diversification. The program was attended byby the ICAR scientists, state Horticulture Officers, KVK scientists, PhD and MSc students of OUAT & SOA, entrepreneurs, growers from different districts of Odisha and apprentice students. Dr. B. N. Sarangi, Emeritus Scientist, CIWA, Bhubaneswar in his address highlighted the potential and scope of Dragon fruit in eastern tropical region. He told that the income of farmers may increase by obtaining knowledge on recent development in horticulture as well as with the adoption of feasible and economically viable technologies. Dr. G. C. Acharya, Head CHES (ICAR-IIHR) welcomed the guests and participants and highlighted the significance of dragon fruit in income diversification of farming community. Dr. Acharya also put emphasis on the adoption of scientific methods of dragon fruit cultivation and establishment of market channel for ensuring high return. He also told the participants that interested growers may obtain quality planting materials from the station. Dr. Kundan Kishore made a presentation on production technology of dragon fruit and highlighted the importance of climatic suitability, training system, nutrient and water management, hand pollination and maturity indices, etc. Dr. G. Sangeetha covered the disease management aspects in dragon fruit. Participants were demonstrated to various aspects of production technology of dragon fruit like planting technique, propagation, training system, water management, nutrient management, disease management, maturity index, etc. Participants expressed their satisfaction on the training program and opined that such type of information was essentially required in order to initiate the cultivation of dragon fruit. The program was coordinated by Dr. Kundan Kishore with the active association of Dr. P Srinivas, Dr. G. Sangeetha, Dr. Deepa Samant and technical staff like Mrs. Suchitra Behera and Sh. Manoj Patnaik.
