The Legal Metrology Department has registered cases against 18 hospitals in Central Kerala, including six leading institutions in Ernakulam, for using weighing and measuring instruments not verified and certified by the department’s officials.

Cases were registered against 12 hospitals in Thrissur, Palakkad and Idukki districts coming under the central zone of the department. R.Ram Mohan, Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology (Central Zone), said that the hospitals should have produced the weighing and measuring instruments before the department to get them checked. These 18 hospitals had failed to comply with Sections 24, 25, and 33 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, he said.

He said the Legal Metrology Department would impose fines on the hospitals for violating the rules.
