An orientation programme on "Strategies in Breeding of vegetable crops" was organized for M.Sc (Hort.) Students of Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR), Bangalore on 23.8.2018. The objective of the programme was to create awareness on advances in breeding of various vegetable crops, so that students gain insight for their for their research programmes. Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist gave an overview about field gene bank of ICAR-IIHR and Dr.V.Sankar, Principal Scientist spoke about cucurbitaceous vegetable crops. The students were taken to field gene bank of Okra, wherein, Dr.Pitchmuthu, Principal Scientist and okra breeder elaborated the on-going vegetable breeding work at ICAR-IIHR. Later students were taken to poly houses and demonstration plots. The students were very much satisfied with the programme and opined that have got exposed to various breeding strategies and this will be helpful for their further studies. This programme was coordinated by Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore.
