Punjab has been a pioneer in agrarian economy. The state has made noteworthy progress in consolidation of land holding, land reclamation for agriculture, development of irrigation, usage of high yielding seed varieties, chemical fertilizers, insecticides and mechanical inputs.Agricultural structure of the economy of Punjab can be determined from the factors like distribution of operational holdings, cropping pattern and the contribution to Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).Punjab holds place of pride among the Indian States for its outstanding achievements in agricultural development.
Consequently, the Punjab state comprising only 1.54 per cent of the total geographical area of country now contributes 13-14 per cent towards the total food grain production of the country. State has earned a name of granary of India through contributing 35-40 per cent of rice and 40 to 75 per cent of wheat to the central pool in the past two decades. Punjab Livestock sector is continuously making an important contribution to the Indian economy as well as in agriculture sector. There has been significant progress in terms of milk production, introduction of new germ plasm, cooperative institutions, marketing of milk and evolving new technologies etc.

The Objective of the event is to promote and develop livestock, dairy fisheries, horse breeds and equestrian sports so as to enable the farmers to produce quality animals for economic gains.
