Hubballi: A day after district minister Vinay Kulkarni allegedly compared leader of opposition in assembly, Jagadish Shettar and Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi, to unproductive buffaloes for "not contributing to the development of the twin cities", the former chief minister on Sunday retaliated by equating the Congress to an unproductive buffalo.
Addressing the gathering at a convention of city district minority cell where some Congress leaders joined the BJP, Shettar said, "People have been electing me for the past five terms and Joshi as MP for the third time thanks to the contribution of the BJP. Kulkarni has used un-parliamentary words. I'm really not worried about the comments of the minister. If there is an unproductive buffalo in the country, it is none other than the Congress. Kulkarni is also one of the unproductive buffaloes. The Congress will be thrown out of the state."
Shettar alleged that the Congress has done nothing for the welfare of the minorities though it has ruled the country for over 70 years. "The UPA government had thrown the Sachar Committee report, which had recommended programmes for the welfare of minorities, to the dustbin. The Congress is trying to create differences between the minorities and the BJP, fearing the loss of vote bank. The Congress has done nothing to improve the living standards of the minorities even after getting their votes. The minorities should not doubt the social commitment of the BJP and work for strengthening the party," he said.
Shettar said that if the BJP was against Muslims, it would have removed the names of Muslims from the list of beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana being implemented at Bengeri area in the city.
