Stressing the importance of adapting to modern technologies in cultivation of fruits and vegetables, Collector K. Rajamani urged farmers recently to avail Central and State government schemes to scale up production and bring down overhead cost.

His remarks came during an interaction with farmers at Kottapalayam village, where he visited the farm of Ramasamy, who cultivated fruit crops using soil mulching technology. Time had come to shun old cultivation practices, which consumed excessive fertilizer, water, money and energy, he said.

Deputy Director of Horticulture R. Krishnamoorthy also visited Kottapalayam.
