K.S. Puttannaiah, MLA, Melkote, on Monday said the State government has allocated ₹103 crore for filling 54 lakes of Dudda hobli from Cauvery water in his constituency. He was speaking after inaugurating the road development works at Shivalli of the taluk.

The government has also released ₹20 lakh for developing roads in Shivalli under the Special Component Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). Fifty-four lakes in the jurisdiction of seven gram panchayats will be filled through pipelines from Srirangapatna via Baburayana Koppalu, Mr. Puttannaiah, a Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) leader, said. The project will irrigate at least 4,100 acres of land and improve the groundwater table, he said.

According to Mr. Puttannaiah, a special grant of ₹3.50 crore has also been released for Dudda hobli to undertake various development works. He urged the State government to release Cauvery water to canals to take up summer crops and seeds under subsidised rates.
